From Diapers to Deadlines: Navigating Small Business Ownership and Motherhood

One of the biggest issues that small business owners, and parents, face is how to balance work and family time. It's important to set boundaries and create a schedule that allows you to devote time to each area of your life. For example, I try to avoid work-related tasks during family time, and I try to prioritize my children's needs when within reason. I have four kids, sometimes it is IMPOSSIBLE to make everyone happy. However, I wouldn't trade this life I have made for anything.

The biggest challenge for me is managing stress. Running a business can be overwhelming, as can parenthood. It's important to take care of yourself mentally and physically, so that you can be your best self for your family and your business. Some things that have helped me include establishing a self-care routine, delegating when possible, and seeking support from other mothers and small business owners. I have cultivated the BEST support group. I thank God daily for my bar manager Amanda and my other small business owners who are mom's and my sounding boards for ALL issues

It's also important to remember that while small business ownership can be time-consuming, it can also provide flexibility and allow you to be present for important moments with your family. This is why it's critical to find a business that fuels your passion and is something you truly love.

Lastly, don't be afraid to ask for help when you need it. I'll be honest and admit that I have received help from professions concerning my anxiety. Help, of any shape or form, is nothing to be ashamed of. Whether that helps comes from family, friends, or even outsourcing business tasks, remember that it's okay to ask for help when the load becomes too much.

In summary, being a small business owner and a mother can be challenging, but it's also incredibly rewarding. Finding the right balance of work and family time, prioritizing self-care, pursuing a passion, and seeking support are all key to succeeding in both areas of your life. Remember, money is NOT everything but health and success are. A balance between both will make you happier and more successful in the long run.
